A friend of mine has come across this shopmule by International. It appears to be primarly built of International B/BN part. Its small enough to fit into the back of his pickup truck. It is a factory built machine. We are looking for any and all info about this tractor. There is a picture posted in the photo section. Thanks for the help.

Shop Mules were built from 1918 to 1950 by the W.F.Hebard Co. of Chicago. From the mid/late 1930's they used IH engines and drivelines, some tractor, some truck and some mixed. The A-14 and A-21 models were the only ones that used "tractor sheet metal". They had U-2 (FarmAll A) power plants. There were other models, the "midget series" that looked like runaways from the bumper car ride at the county fair and larger ones, the A-14V that used U-4 (FarmAll H) power, and the J-series that used the 233cid IH truck engine. In 1950 the BUDA co of Harvey, IL bought Hebard out and continued to build them as BUDA-
HEBARD Shop Mules until 1953 when Allis-
Chalmers bought BUDA out.

Well, I could not locate my Shop Mule in the Gallery. It had been some time ago that the picture was put in there, so maybe the data base is updated and older pictures removed. Anyway, I put it in again, and here it is.

This looks like a home made rig to me. It certainly was not made by IH, but of course it has IH parts. Hebard Company in Chicago made shop mules in the 1940s from IH A parts. Hebard also made some with the H engine and truck rear axles. I've seen a few others made by other "material handling" companies that use IH parts. I saw one that was made from a C. I think if they are legit, all these have nameplates on them from the company that built them up. On the Hebards, the name plate is on the "dash" under the steering wheel. If you want to, E mail me and I will send you some pictures of my Hebard shop mule. There is a picture of it in the gallery here on the forum. Search on Hebard.

It's not "by International."

It's "POWERED by International" according to the placard in your second picture. If these guys are any indication, it wasn't built by International.

"Midget Shop Mule Powered by International" is what the placard reads.

Looks like a home made unit to me. Shop mules were wide front made out of International A. Dave.

It does not look like any of the Shop Mules I have seen before. Do you have any other pictures of it? Maybe closer in of the bell housing, transmission or final drives?

Is there still a Shop Mule serial plate on it? If so, what model and serial numbers are on it?

Contact me, we should be able to figure it out.

The SHOP MULE REGISTRY has located well over 130 examples of W.F.Hebard and Buda-Hebard built Shop Mules.

Could you give me information on my tractor? It has an engine serial number of 300047 and a shop mule serial number of 2 1515. What is the difference between a buda hebard and a WF hebard model? Any help is appreciated. Chris Ratcliffe
