My neighbor decided to get rid of his old IH 230 - Won't start, hydraulics don't work, got a bullet hole in the radiator. He told me to haul it off and do what I want with it. He has a "new" Long 350 he uses now. I "fixed" the hydraulic pump for him last year and I think I know what to do to get the system operating again - gotta get creative with the priming. The radiator leak is supposed to small - said to be "a single pellet from a .410". I didn't see any large holes but I guess I'll find out more about that in a little while. Wife & I towed the 230 to my shop this morning. Starting problem probably is 99% because he didn't shut the gas off and he leaves the tractor in the weather, uncoverd. I donated my time and material and built him a shed for the tractor last year, but the Long moved into it when he got it last Fall. I hate to see this old girl rusting away so I guess she's got a new home, now. She'll have her own stall in the barn, too. She'll be nice and cozy beside my 1958 D17 Series 1.
Now for the questions - where can I find a rebuilt hydraulic pump and rebuild kits for the hydraulic valves & cylinder for it? The reason I had to "fix" that pump last year is I couldn't locate a replacement for it. Next question, is there such an animal as a belly mower to fit this tractor? It's got a narrow front and I haven't looked for the serial number yet to get the year. Any info will be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Haven"t had time to do anything but check out the radiator and put a tarp over the old girl for now. She"s parked in front of my shop so I won"t forget it, but since the barn is up a fairly steep bank, I"m gonna have to drive it in under it"s own power. As for the radiator, there"s a .22 sized hole in the grill screen but it appears to be a REAL small hole in the leading edge of one tube so I hope some Barr"s will fix it! Might have been a .22 short and it ran out of power before it could do any more damage. There again I need to have the engine running when I put it in so it"ll be a while yet but at least I have a starting point. Thanks again for the info!

Hi Bud, I don't think that person that I talked to knew what he was talking about on Woods mowers.

I received an email from Woods and they say there are mowers available. Send an email to prospects2@Woodsequipment.com or stevew@woodsonline.com or call them at 1-866-869-6637. They recommend the model 59HCH or L306. I asked for midmount so make sure they know that when you contact them. They can supply you with the dealer in your area. Hope this helps. Hal

I was told that you need to contact your local Case/IH dealer for a mid-mount mower. They said
a Woods would not fit, even though they have one for the 200 & 240. I thought this was weird.
Good Luck, Hal

Belly mowers are avalible. Talk to a Woods dealer. As far as the hydraulic parts go, a Case-IH dealer should have those. Usually the unloading valve is what causes trouble with that system. A gasket, a screen, and about an hour's worth of time can fix that. Describe the symptoms once you get it running. The control valves won't need work unless they leak. Don't take them apart unless you have the special tool.
