O6 clutch

I read about the sucesses of victory on this forum almost everyday, and enjoy them. Mine was the O6 starting yesterday. It was stuck, have worked on it in spare time over the past 4 years. Got it unstuck, put new sleeves, pistons, rings in. Used the original carburator and mag. The carb probably needs rebuilding because the position of the choke is critical in the enginge running. Was quite a rush to hear it run!

The clutch is stuck as I thought it was. My question - Does the motor have to come out to free up the clutch? Frame doesn't split on the O6. There is a plate that looks like it will come off just above the clutch assembly. Can the clutch be freed by gettin in there with oil or whatever? Thanks for responses. Dale

On the "6" Standard tractors, the clutch comes out from the top. I've not done it, but I believe gas tank and support have to come off to get the cover plate off.

My thought would be to try to get the clutch unstuck without taking it apart. There are things that you can do to try to get it unstuck, then take it apart as a last resort. Unless, of course, you just want to take it apart anyway. Don't use oil though, or you will have to take it apart to replace the clutch.
Could be that the carb just needs cleaning- sounds like it's just "gunked up". Rebuild kits aren't that expensive, though.
Congratulations on getting it running! Is is quite a rush, isn't it?
Post back if you want me to ramble about getting the clutch unstuck.
Paul

Probably best to take it apart and check the linings and clutch and flywheel surfaces. You don't have to remove the engine. Take off the gas tank, starter, belt pulley gearbox if equipped, and then the cover. Once inside, take apart the coupling and crosshaft(will be self explanatory once you are there, then the bolts holding the clutch on and you will be able to lift it out. Hope this helps. Paul
