I think i have short in the regulator. The light switch got very hot,but it keeps on charging, the next the battery is dead.I unhooked th switch, took the battery cable off with the shut off switch in the off position, touched the battery and still get on hell of a spark. Then I did the same thing with the ampmeter gage and the light switch still unhooked and touch the the battery with the cable once again a sparks occurs. So I went to the regulator, with everything still unhooked I touched the battery and can here the regulator clicking. I took off the field wire on the regulator and the noise would stop. Is the regulator bad!!! Am I heading in the right direction !!!!! !!!!! ! HELP PLEASE

You dont polarize a reg. To polarize the gen touch the ARM terminal on the gen to BAT terminal on the reg. You probably have fried the reg by not having correct ground or the wrong reg. Need to find out what gen you have then you can get the correct reg to go with the gen.

Sounds like the points in the regulator are stuck shut, probably burned bad by now.
