At splitting my 400D. This is my third time doing it (mainly because I am such a hard learner), this year!

1st time: Clutch, TA, and rear seal
2nd time: Tractor clutch froze tight (wonder how that happened!)
3rd time: Bad rear seal (wonder how that happened!) Went from the nearly impossible to install newfangled rubber seal to the old fashioned felt seal.

However, I did the 3rd split all in ONE DAY.

If any of you guys need me to split yours, just give me a call. You use YOUR brains, me the brawn.

You are good, it can be done in that amount of time. I used to work as a mechanic at a John Deere dealership, would you believe that the flat rate manual allowed only 6 hours to R&R the clutch on a JD 4020? That is the time allowed from driving the tractor into the shop and driving it back out again.

Well, honesty is the best policy. It took me the whole day, 12 hours long, and there was no tin on the beast except the dash. No lunch break either.

But, I'm still impressed with myself.

that reminds me of a story. I went to work in the repair shop when I was still in high school and Carl always told this tale. His previous mechanic brought a tractor in one afternoon, a Farmall, pulled the head, ground the vales and had it back running by quitin' time. When they called the farmer to tell him it was done he blew up. Couldn't believe they could possably have done a good job in that short time. Ever after when we finished a tractor we never called til the next day.

Many a moon ago when 560's were a plenty and had a few hrs. I had started at 7:00 AM, Major an engine and have it running by 7:pm, didn't have sheet metal on, or valves set but it was running.
