I just bought a new hard rubber knob for the shift lever on my 300 U. Apparently it just slides over the end of the shift lever but it has an itty bitty hole to accomplish this. Can anyone provide me with the best way to accomplish this?

I put one on my H. Heated the end that goes over the lever with a heat gun until I just began to smell that hot rubber smell, then pounded it down with a rubber mallet. Went on very easily and hasn't budged a bit in three months. Didn't use any glue.

If it's like the ones I've bought recently you probably won't need any glue. Had to use a soft rubber hammer to drive them on.

The shift Knob is just pushed down as far as it will go on the lever. The little hole is for removing the knob from the mold at the factory. If you want to keep the knob from comming off (and I can think of no reason to want it off in the future)use Gorilla Glue(You need a bottle of this stuff any way). Put about 6 drops of water on the end of the lever and wet it so that it is covered with water. Then apply two drops of G/G to the inside of the rubber Knob push on the knob and turn it twice to spread the glue. Clean any residual glue off of the shaft with a damp rag. Let it set (two Hrs) and there it is. Do not over do the glue. The glue requires H2O for setup, but it is waterproof when hard.
Lots of Luck,

I believe that little hole also purges the air thats compressed when its slid over the shaft.Without it,it would keep popping back off everytime you pushed it back down.
