Will an IH 2000 loader that was on a 656 utility fit on a 656 farmall?

Darren,
The mountings for the I-656 are designed for a tractor that is closer to the ground than an F-656. I suspect you could bolt the loader right on BUT, it would not go low enough to the ground to work. If you can find a dealer that still has a parts book on these loaders, the differences in the mounts can be seen in the pictures. It is the front mountings and also the main subframe at the rear where the loader attaches to the axle that are different. These require a completely different front bracket and a major rework at the rear.

Don: The height of the two tractors in question, off the ground is exactly 3". There is adjustment on that loader mount and position of lift cylinder pins to take care of differences.

Darren: The mounting for the 2000 loader 656 Utility to Farmall will be exactly the same. Unlike earlier IH tractors the chassis on 656 Farmall and Utility are the same.

i've moved a 2250 loader from a farmall 656 to a 656 hi utility and back, with no problem. everything lined up ok. i think the hi utility is built the same as the regular utility with the exception of the row crop rear axles and longer front spindles.

Yes, but not as a direct bolt-on. The mounting brackets are different, so you either need to modify the utility's mounting brackets, or find a set for the Farmall.

I would bet you're going to have to modify the utility brackets, because you're not bloody likely to find a set of Farmall brackets without a loader attached to them.

Nat,

Do you know how extensive the modifications for the brackets will be? I will be installing it at a client's place that has welder, computer cutting machines, sheers, benders.. you name it. Is it a matter of wrong hole placement, or a matter of adding or removing steel to adjust width etc...

Thanks,

Darren
