Hey guys! I was searching through a scrap yard in a nearby town for a rear tire for my Super A today when I came across a tractor named LE ROI. It looked like a short Minneapolis Moline.Never heard of it before, from Quebec maybe? Any ideas? Just wondering. See ya.

I believe Le Roi is French for The King. Funny that an American company would claim a French name...

Sure! Le Roi is (or was...) an "all American" engine builder in Milwaukee WI. Their business was primarily industrial gasoline engines that found application on pumps, compressors, excavating equipment, standby generators, etc. A few large LeRoi V8 gas engines found application in trucks (Autocar, and probably others...) in the early 50's.

Le Roi also dabbled with small ag tractors with modest success. They were a good quality machine but did not sell very well.

This is a shot of a nicely restored Le Roi "Centaur" tractor on display at a local show.

Yep. In a previous life when I worked on construction we had several air tracs (tractors with mounted compressed air tanks). Like a mobile air compressor. They were Le Roi s.
We used them to pneumatically power
jackhammers and hand tampers (pogo-sticks).
In was a pain dragging all that aire hose
around and coiling up at day's end.

Around this part of the country the Centars were used by County, State, and town highway Departments mostly to mow grass along the roads. They also had an early version ag tractor that was driven with the front wheels and was used as a cultivation tractor. It looked something like a Moline Universal. All used the LeRoi engine and were built from the 20,s thu the 50's.
