I rebuilt my carb. to make the moter run better but it still runs pore. I have a timming light but don't know how to use it on a tractor. Every time I cut the moter off it blowes the exost cap off with a backfire up the exost mannafold. Any advice? Thanks

To me it sounds like it is running to rich, you might try to turn the main jet in a turn or 2.

Get an Operator's Manual. It will tell you how to set the timing. There is a pointer on the front cover that lines up with a notch on the pulley. You won't need the timing light.

There are three notches on the pully. Two are close togahter and one on the other side. Which one of the two do I use to line up to? I have read on this forem that because of defferances in gass, I should advance the timming a little. To do that (advance) do I go past the mark a little or stop short of the mark a little?
Thanks

Get an Operator's manual. It tells how to set the timing, and more important, where and how often to service and grease your tractor.

Use the notch that is at TDC. The difference in fuel does matter with these motors. Advancing the timing will just make it harder to start. Use lighter springs in the autoadvance to make the curve steeper.
