Farmall H Motor Stuck...Wont Budge

My H has a stuck motor and I put some oil down the spark plug holes and let it sit for quite some time now. Today I put a big 1-3/4 socket on the crank pulley nut and it will not budge. By turning the nut one way, the nut loosens and comes off. By turning the other way, it just gets tight and still the pulley does no turn at all. I pulled the plugs and also tried a 12V battery. Still will not turn over. Any suggestions?

Use coke in the cylinders, take the oil pan off and use a hydraulic jack (block up from floor) jack up on a counter weight get front wheels about 2" off floor let it set, If that don't work may have to use a hammer, but use wood or something soft.

The best thing I have ever heard of, and I have not tried it, is from the red power site. A guy over there made a lot of sense about anything oil based not being the best way to go. He said to find an auto store selling carb cleaner in the old 1 or 2 gal buckets. Use carb cleaner in the cylinders, nothing he said, will eat more gunk than carb cleaner.

"Rome was not built in a day"....and neither was a stuck tractor engine unstuck in a day. Or a week.
Sometimes it takes months if you don't want to get too invasive.

I would agree that you need a solvent, not just oil. PB Blaster works very well, as do the other "looseners", I have found one called RUST EATER that works well, smells just like PB blaster. I think rocking the tractor while in gear gives you the most leverage, and you can do that everytime you pass by the tractor. Just make sure that the tractor isn't going to start on you when you get her ro.lling

I have seen this procedure posted on here for freeing a stuck engine.

Remove the head, gas tank and anything flammable.
Be sure the tractor isn't close to any buildings
and pour some diesel fuel into each cylinder and
set them on fire. I have never used this, but I would use a little kerosene. Keep a fire extinguisher handy that's used for petroleum fires. The heat is what's required to free the engine. This should be the last resort. Hal

First off, HOW did the engine get stuck? That will determine how you unstick it. An engine that's stuck from sitting will be different than an engine that siezed while it was being used.

One attempt after drizzling some oil down the spark plug holes hardly ever works.

Oil just lubricates the rust. There are all kinds of cocktails for freeing engines stuck from lack of use. PB Blaster, Kroil, Marvel Mystery Oil, automatic transmission fluid... Heck, I've even heard that Coca-Cola works.

Next thing you need is time. It may take months of repeated applications of penetrant to loosen the engine.

You're not going to "armstrong" the engine free with brute force. Jack up a wheel, put the tractor in high gear, then rock it back and forth.

It may be stuck so bad that you're going to have to pull the oil pan and head, then pound the pistons out with a hammer...

I use transmission fluid and you need to let it soak. I used a piece of hard maple wood to drive
out the pistons. I pulled the engine too. Hal

Just to make sure it's the motor stuck and not the starter jammed. Pull the starter off and see if you can turn the crank then.
If not, a search on this site for, "freeing stuck engine" turns up an overflow of info.

I like to keep rotation pressure on the as follows.
Put PB BLaster in the spark plug holes (My choice, I would not put carb cleaner in the engine because it eats too many types of metals, it is caustic matarial, and there are a bunch in the engine.) With room in front of everything for the unit to roll 3' forward try the following:
Jack up (under the axle housing) one rear tire at a time (a High lift jack, or 3ton hydraulic on substantial blocking). Place the unit in 5th gear. Then shove a truck type repair/oilchange ramp under the tire such that the tire is trying to roll down the ramp forward, then do the other side (remember to keep the lifting straight so as to not tip sideways). This puts much more strain on the crank than either the starter, or wiggiling the rear tire. But not more than internal parts can stand. Leave it this way, and it will free itself! with luck.
