1 owner, 1970 International 656D diesel row crop. New hydro and new tires. Original paint.. everything works perfect and doesn't burn oil. Always well cared for and started every month in the winter. Has an ether starter system, but they never used it, they always used the block heater to warm it up. 4800 hours and I bought it for $6300. Maybe that is a little high (you tell me), but I really got a good feeling about the guy on the phone, and he seemed honest and straightforward. Now I just have to get it 400 miles back to here, and find a loader for it.... Anybody in central IL have a backhoe trailer with a regular hitch they would rent?

What do you think of it?

Take care of the Hydro and it will last a long time. Change hyd. and hydro filter every year. The hy-tran maybe now, unless you know he just did. Don't get the hy-tran hot, keep radiator clean. Keep it full, dip stick on a 1066 says check at so many RPM's, in neutral & warmed up. You will enjoy that tractor.

Good looking tractor Darren. A 656 is about the handiest most user friendly tractor ever made. I have a gas 10 speed with 1400 hrs that is not as nice in the paint dept as your 656. Best of luck with it.

i'd say you did good on that one. i bought a gasser last winter for $6400 delivered from pa. other than the gas/diesel thing, its identical in appearance to yours, even the new goodyear tires. i use gas because we use it every day for loading silage and feeding cows.... start up, shut off, repeat, etc.

That tractor should have a glow plug in each injector, very dangerous to use both at same time. If it has an ether injector it has been added as aftermarket. Good glow plugs, good starter, and good batterys with block heater should start anytime. Even in hot whether glow plugs will have to be used if it has been shut off long. Very nice looking tractor.

I think you did very well, the tires and everything else look to be excellent. Where is the tractor located? Check the hauling schedule, maybe someone is already coming your way that has room for the tractor?

This is my first tractor and I am pretty excited to go and get it. Thanks to all of you guys who answered my questions while I was trying to figure out what I want. This is a really great online community here!

I'll post some pics of the pic up run when I go to WI and get it!

I sold my gas in excellent condition for 7200. With a new hydro I think you received a very fair deal. Have lots of fun with it. It is a great tractor.

Very nice looking tractor.

There is actually a nice looking loader in the classifieds right now that you might want to check out.

Check out the link below.

Thanks for the loader link.. that does look like a nice one. $1500 sound reasonable if it's all there and working?

Sheesh.. everything for this tractor project is 6 hours away from here.. oh well, if you want to get what you want, you've got to go and get it...

I'm glad to hear you guys think that 656 is a good deal. If it all is as advertised, and I really have no reason to think it won't be, I'm going to be quite happy with it I beleive. Here is what I have to do with it to start:

- Put in 1500 feet of trenches for water and electrical to 5 outbuildings (still need to find a 3pt backhoe attachment for that.. any leads in that department?

-Install a new 500ft driveway and tear out the old 300 foot driveway

- regrade the ground around the house and 5 buildings

- add on a garage to the house

- redo the lean-to of the barn including drilling about 20 new postholes for the concrete support piers

- use it to haul off a whole house worth of torn out parts as we remodel

- mow 2 miles of ditch

I think if I do all that with it, it will still be worth what I paid for it when I'm finished (not that I ever plan on getting rid of it!) and I will have paid for it in saved labor and avoided rental costs... oh yeah.. and clean off the 8 foot deep snowdrift I get on the driveway every winter!
