Okay I admit it I need help. Getting the 39 M OUT of first gear is a real pain in the *** ! All other gear changes seem o.k. Any ideas from the "been there" crowd.
THANKS !

I make the assumption that the clutch is not draging, and being held down sufficiently. There are three items of interest in order of easy to check/fix:

The shifter lever tip on the far end of the lever in the little tower on the platform is worn in a way that hangs up. Repair by disassembling the lever from the tower and welding up and reshaping.

The shift rails and detent balls are worn and or bent causing grief in getting it out of gear. Trans cover (platform) has to be removed to repair.

Gear has worn the splines on its shaft (or teeth, less likely) and these symetrical ridges are making the gear reluctant to move on the shaft. Correcting means tear down to replace worn parts. Some try to bevel the wear by dremel grinding, but this still requires the teardown to get access. Not the real solution.
Others may post more possibilities. Good luck, Jim Nicholson
