My Grandfather, Ed Lubbers, died this morning at age 95. He was responsible for getting me into this tractor thing. He started farming in NW Iowa with horses and his first tractor was a Farmall Regular. He had a bad experience working for a neighbor with a John Deere B and vowed to never own a John Deere tractor. He never did. He had many tractors over the years. Some of them that I can remember are: H, M, MTA, 300 Utility, 560, 656, 966 as well as a 930 and a 1030 Case. At age 90 he went with me to buy my first tractor, a 560D. He walked up to it, turned on the key, made sure it was in neutral, hit the glow plugs for a while and started it. It was just like he had done it the day before. I have many memories from childhood sitting on his lap riding a tractor. Mowing hay or cultivating with an H, baling with the 560, plowing with the 930. I will miss him.

When the loss of a loved one comes to someone there is a void that is hard to except , for some folks the expeiriance is worse .It sounds like you were brought up with old school values and have a bounty of wounderfull memories to recall .Let nary a tear fall fer the hardship of the void with out reckalecktion of the memories with grandpa.Know this dear sir; my compassion goes out to ya .May yer days on this old earth be as long and may someone be left with as many pleasant memories as gradpa left with you . Fred and Linda

Curt:
Very sorry to hear this news. My grandpa was the one who got me interested in tractors many years ago-- he's been gone now for 12 years --but I can still remember him when he was in his 80's and very ill roll-starting his Oliver 77 on our driveway at the farm. For the few minutes that he was on the seat of that tractor it seemed as if years had fallen off him and he was happy. Memories to cherish.
We still have this '77 and I think about this whenever I run it.

Jeff

Sorry to hear of your loss, the memories will help some to fill the void. Once that generation is gone they can never be replaced - there sure are some characters in that age bracket with some wonderful stories and experiences to share. Pat in Wis

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. It's just good that you have those wonderful memories of him, and him getting you into tractors. Now you'll always have him around as long as you have your tractor around and your memories of him. I never new any of my grandfathers, but I wish I did.
