Dave,
I live in Asheboro about 20 miles east of the Thresher's Reunion site. There's lodging in Lexington and Asheboro which are about the same distance from the site. Asheboro is a dry (no alcohol) town (largest dry town in NC!). Lexington is a similarly sized small town but wet. Lexington also has two or three regionally famous barbeque restaurants. You could also consider staying in Winston-Salem which is about forty miles north of the gathering. Winston has lots of places to stay, eat and do tourist activities. On the other hand, if you like pottery, just south of Asheboro is more than 100 independent potters and also the NC Zoo which is one of the world's largest zoos.
