Can anyone tell me what the L D H B stands for on the switch?

That's a combination generator control/light switch. The settings are:

L = Low charge rate, lights off
H = High charge rate, lights off
D = Dim lights (they're not kidding when they say "dim"!)
B = Bright lights

He means really dim on 6v. There is not as much difference on 12v.

I think the dim setting was used for highway use where you don't really need lights but want cars to see you, and you don't want to blind them.

I keep putting brighter lights on my M's so I can see when farming at night, and they are a bit of a hazard when meeting cars at night.
