we've got a reasonable tractor, good shape and paint, and runs very nice(for being red)it's got a aftermarket loader and it's only real problem is that brales are nonexhistant. as we are green and yellow people here although this tractor could be nice for some, it's not to welcome on our farm, so i'm wondering two things, first what would something like this be worth to sell, and how big a job is it to fix the brakes. thanks so much. B

Thank you all for the input, sorry, didn't mean to bash, just stating facts, i b from iowa's eastern bump, right between Dubuque, and Davenport. You all saying how easy it is to do brakes has encourged me to give it a try, even though this tractor sure looks foreign to me. one other thing, i've heard from grandpa that allis tractors such as the D17 are a bear to fix brakes on, but i suppose i'm on the wrong board for that. Well, thanks anyway.

Replace the disks, and use sand paper on the surfaces the disks run against to clean off rust and other crud, also replace the seals if they are leaking -- sooner or later thay will. One of the easiest jobs you will do on any tractor, regardless of color.

There was also a fix on those brakes your tractor may not have. The linkage rubbed the inside of the housing causing them not to work right. Pull the housing and look for a spot where the linkage may be hitting. If so, grind a little of the housing away so the linkage is free.
I have red and green...like both. Give the old girl a chance,...she's getting up in years.

You actually come to the Red board and bash a Red tractor? Not welcome on your farm? Afraid those green ones will get 4 cylinder envey? I like em all. Tell you what, I'll give you 500 for that inferior red tractor to help save your farm.

I'll go one better: I'll fix the brakes, provide the parts and labor, and all you have to do is give me the tractor in payment.

Brakes on them is easy to work on, there disc. Pull the covers and every thing come off simple as pie. Costs around $50 or so for new ones.
