You don't need to throw the block away. A good engine machine shop knows how to fix a cracked block. I just went through this with a '45 M. It was leaking around one of the sleeves, at the bottom. These blocks are dry sleeves. If its leaking, the block is cracked. I found two other blocks, took them in to have them machined and they were both cracked also. I took the original block to the machine shop, they had to break up the sleeve to get it out. They then machined out that cylinder, put in a sleeve with some kind of special block sealer, they machined it to accept a new sleeve. All that, drilling out a couple of head studs, turning the crank, and pressing on my new pistons and pins cost less than $600. I put in a Super M kit (4" pistons), and it runs great.

I had two cylinders done this way on a 560 Diesel about 4000 hours ago. Works great.

You need to get a sleeve puller, your local rental shop may have a puller. Your local machine shop can machine a puck. You need the
block bore dimension and the piston too and have it machined to fit just inside the sleeve and enough clearance to clear the block. .020" under
the piston diameter and .040" to .045" overall for the puck to clear the block. Hal
PS: You need a 13/16" hole in the center for 3/4"
allthread.

If the sleeve is cracked, the only fix is to replace the sleeve... That means it HAS to come out one way or another.

If you mean the engine block is cracked, the only way to fix that is to replace the engine block...
