She just called me a liar and walked away, smiling over her shoulder and shaking her head after taking the picture.

I dont know what it is about old stuff, wanting to bring it back. Lord knows we never get our money back out of it, but who cares. Just trying to preserve a little tradition and history I guess.

Or is it the first time you fire up whatever you just finished, get the first few puffs of smoke in your face and the wind and smells and sounds knowing full well you can have the utmost in confidence in your machine because you have returned it to its former glory. I guess its just good Ole American Pride.

This is my 4th tractor, I've done, 4 houses, 7 cars, 2 airplanes, 3 boats, and who knows what else. Seems like I can fix everything except for the problem I have with wanting to fix everything. She'll be real nice when shes done though.

third party image

Here's a picture of 90% of my grandfather's '47 2N ford tractor. The only things not visible in the picture are the wheels (up against the wall to the right) and the engine (at the machine shop). The transmission guts are in a cardboard box on the floor and some parts are in the solvent tank. This is my "picked to the bone" picture! You've definately got me beat on volume, though! I'm only 25 so i've still got some years to catch up to ya!

Oh yeah, all of my tools that I had available at the time are also shown in the picture with the exception of one floor jack and a borrowed engine hoist. I took the engine to the machine shop in the trunk of my ford Taurus sedan! Tractors. They get to ya and get in deep!

Looks like you got me beat on the pieces thing. But im still thinking of breaking her down farther, especially after I pulled about a cubic foot of mouse nest out of the bell housing and torque tube. I originally was just going to replace all gaskets and do it up but Im on the fence now. Dont really want to go into the engine and trans, this thing was one owner and taken care of very well. Excellent compression and very tight trans, no noise whatsoever. Only had 1 bolt (fender) that I had to torch off. Ive never had it so good...so far.

Man - that A is "down to the bone" just like you said!!! Do you ever have spare bolts left over but can"t find any empty holes?
I"d love to take my 350 all the way down and back up, new paint and look"n good. Only trouble is I need it to hay with. Thanks for the answer - buy another tractor to use while you restore the other!!

I always bag all hardware, the only thing I have left over are usually broken lock washers that were replaced. I hate mystery pieces. Kinda scary. Ya its nice having other machines around to keep up on the work, I got 3 others. JD 420, Ford 5000 and another SA, 2 JD lawn tractors. Cant have enough of them you know.
