I have been torn about to convert to 12 volt or stay with original 6 volt system on the 300 ute. Finally decided to stay with 6 and give it a try. NAPA wants over $100.00 for a 6 volt battery and I am shopping around. My manuals do not list the Cold Cranking Amps or diminsions of the original battery and was wondering if any of you folks knew what these would be. Interstate has the following batteries listed, would one of these work?

CCA RC Volts Dimensions (in.)L | W | H
575 160 6 8-7/8 x 6-7/8 x 8-3/4 600 170 6 10-1/4 x 7 x 9-1/8 360 115 6 7-3/8 x 6-3/4 x 9 440 120 6 8-1/4 x 6-5/8 x 7-3/8 © 2004 Interstate Battery System of America, Inc.

Ask Interstate about the spiral core Optima battery in 6 volt for your 300. It will have over 600 amps and you can put it in your tractor with room to spare. Not cheap...but WOW what power! Jeffcat

The spiral-wound batteries are definitely superior to any others. They are more pricey, though. Beware of one item when installing a spiral battery in an older machine: These batteries are particular about the maximum voltage applied during charging. I believe you never want to apply more than 7.5 volts. What I'm saying is - be sure your charging system is in good shape and your voltage regulator (yes, a voltage regulator - not cutout) is working well.

Congrat's on your decision to keep your 300 6 volts!

Regarding 6 volt batteries, buy the highest CCA rating you can physically fit into the box. I got one for my Super H for $32 at Sam's club a couple years ago. Don't recall the dimensions but it just fit into the box, and it was rated at 550 CCA.

Now that seems to be a more reasionable price.

Thanks,

Joe
