Need help with the family's old tractor. I can't find any information on it. It is a farmall diesil. The only thing that I know is that they were made in England. 350 were sold in the U.S. and we have the only one in Texas. The serial number is 4366. If anyone has any in formation on this tractor, I appriciate it.

Your message title says "Farmall first diesel tractor". Some responders say it is a 1960 model. That can't be the first Farmall diesel since the MD was around before 1960. Or do you mean this is the first Farmall diesel that your family owned?

John,

Ypur tractor is a 1960 Farmall B-450. I don't know how many were imported to the US (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi) but it was a lot more than 350. Also a good number were sold in Texas. Numbers are relative and it is a rare tractor in the US. As Hugh mentioned a few International B-450's were sold in Canada. It was brought into the South at the request of dealers who wanted something more simple than the new 460/560 etc line of six cylinder tractors. It proved to be a good tractor but it was never pushed by IH who wanted to promote the more modern tractors so was sold over here for just a few years. Although they are scattered all over the US now, they were only sold in the Delta regions of AR, MS, & LA, and in Texas.

John: If your tractor is Farmall and made in England, Rusty has the right answer, B-450, it looks like an M and should have a factory 3 point hitch. The tractor will be a direct start diesel with glow plugs. One other remote possibility is Farmall Super BMD, basically the same tractor as B-450 only an older model. These were imported into the southern US by IH about 1961 to 1963. I think the model change from SBMD to B-450 occured just before that, but some will say 1958, others 1960 and still others 1962. Since you have a relatively small serial number, my bet is on the B-450.

Try reposting a new thread on this, in headline draw attention to Harold H, he was a dealer in the south when these tractors were sold new. Just suggest to Harold you need ID on British Farmall diesel. He'll nail it for you.

The first Farmall diesel was the "M". If it's a standard like WD-6 or WD-9 those aren't known as Farmalls. The first IHC diesel was a WD-40, a big 6 cylinder standard, but again it's not a Farmall. Only the rowcrops were known as Farmalls, but it seems many people on tractor forums think all IHCs are Farmalls - wrong!

Isn't there some numbers on the hood of this tractor? Post a picture and someone may be able to identify it. Hal
