I have a '46 A with a Woods L59 belly mower that I've used for over 10 years. Finally, the belt gave way last year. I cannot get the new belt (#4152) to work at all! It is way way tighter than the old one, but yet it won't make one revolution without twisting. We really had to wrestle it on-changed the position of the mower, moved idler pullies. We then lined the pullies back up as best we could to where they were before. The belt will not stay put-and like I said it seems awefully tight. Any ideas??

Tara This is from a l59 manual
1. first put belt on bottom grove, right hand side of the center sheave. Then thread it to the left, around the left hand sheave.

2.Bring the belt back across the center groove over to the right outside sheave.

3. Then thread it back across the frount of the center aheave in the top groove.

4. PROPER TWIST The belt then follows with a 3/4 twist back under the left v-idler,up over the drive sheave and back down under the right idler pulley. This will leave a 1/4 twist in the section of belt extending from the right v-idler to to lower groove of the center mower sheave.

5. Adjust the mower to proper cutting height. The front of the mower should be slighty lower than the rear for best cutting and least power requirement.

6. IDLER ADJUSTMENT Make minor belt adjustments with idlers but keep left idler about 1" above being in line with the groove in witch the belt runson the center sheave of the mower and right idler 1" below. Move mower fore and aft for major adjustments.

This is good for modles 59c,l59,& L306.

If I knew how I would send some pics.If you need pics e-msil me and I will see if one of my kids will send them. Hope this helps Bill,

Nat is right, I never try to put the belt on mine without the instruction sheet. Try the Woods website I think somebody said the instructions ar posted there.

Are you following the belt-stringing procedure in the manual for the mower? You have to intentionally put certain twists in the belt as you install it.
