My 154 Cub-Loboy won't run at 800- to about 1,100 RPM. It idles great at around 500-525 RPM ( I know the book says 475 RPM) and the the max idle speed is around 2,200 RPM. (I know the max is about 2400+-). My RPM gauge could be a little off too. It starts with no choke and has plenty of power. It runs great with the exception if I set the throttle into the 800- 1,100 RPM range, it goes BLAAAAA A and will stall right out (even if it has been running an hour. I have to choke it to re-start it. I can go from high idle to low idle with no problems. Any ideas? I put an IH carb kit in it last year and set the float hight and drop to spec. I also have a Fram G3606 inline filter that I just replaced. I have used this type of filter on this tractor for years. Thanks!!

Is it a distributor if so I had a similiar problem with a CA and it turned out that 1 of the springs in the distributor had braoke and was not letting timing advance for a smooth run at 1000 rpms or higher. loosen up the bolts on distributor and as you throttle up manually advanc distributor and see if it levels out.

I think your engine is running too lean since you said you had to choke the engine to restart it.
It may have some dirt in the high speed jet. I would check that valve clearance to make sure they aren't too tight. Float setting is 1-13/32"
according to my IH manual. The float could be rubbing the wall of the carburetor and wouldn't let the bowl fill to the correct level. Has to be something minor since it idles ok. Will it accelerate to full throttle with the choke partially on? If it does a good indication of not getting enough fuel. Hal

It will accelerate any time without the choke. I only need the choke to restart it when it dies. Thanks!!
