I worked on a friends Super M yesterday that was having generator problems. After starting it a couple of times the starter quit. We took a battery from another tractor that we thought was ok since it turned the tractor it was on,still the starter wouldn"t operate on the M. I checked the starter switch, the cables, cleaned the ground connections and the cables, took the starter off and it ran good on the bench, but it wont run on the tractor.I"m thinking both batteries are weak. What do you all think? Ed

Theres more to the starter system than the battery and starter motor, and a casual visual inspection won't necessarily reveal the problems.

Clean all the connections, make sure the wires are good. Make sure the engine isn't locked up. Make sure the starter isn't locking against the ring gear in the flywheel.

I'd turn it over with the hand crank. Or pull start it once. One piston might have hung up on dead center & it's like locked up.

I think I would put a battery charger on it overnight and try it tomorrow.
