Was watching E-Bay one night last January and decided that a W-6 was just to cheap so I bid on it.

Got home last night from the trip to pick it up. 1900 miles round trip and two nights in motels trippled the cost of this cheap tractor.

With fuel over $2.00 the cost of transportation really gets to you quick.

You would think that I would learn my lesson.

Provided you have a gas pickup -- 1900 miles/8 mpg * $2.10 gas = $498.75.

Forgot you were empty one way, so you probably spent "only" $380 or so for gas.

I think the cost of transportation is really hurting the sales of tractors.

Now come on guys..... .you can't really stand on that argument. We really aren't paying a hugely different fuel bill than we were a couple of years ago. Let's say you burn 100 gallons of fuel on a long trip. 10mpg is average for a truck and trailer loaded..... over the course of that long trip, your gas might cost you another $50. Hardly chump change but not a deal breaker either. Just think about the actual figures the next time you say that the gas prices are killing you....it's not really as bad as we think.

I have saved a fortune by not buying all the bargain tractors that are outside of my 100 mile radius. There were two TD24's that sold on ebay for under $100 each (one was $1) that I wanted but they were 2000 miles away and Lord only knows what that would have cost! (40-50,000 lb each)
