My co worker and I both have a cub cadet mower. one is a 682 and the other is a 129. the 129 has the 50 inch deck and the 682 has the 44 inch deck. We have come to the conclusion that niether one of them mow very well. They both leave streaks all over the lawn. We have them adjusted the way that the book tells us to adjust them. What are we doing wrong? or is it just the nature of the cub cadet mowers to mow with a crappy finish. Help us out PLEASE!!!

50" deck on a 129? 42" is standard and what I have on my 129 and same deck on my 104 and they both as well as my 46" deck on a Deere will all leave streaks

Everyone else has given good suggestiosn. The 44 & 50" decks aer THE BEST IH ever made. Take the decks off both tractors and prop them up against a wall and spin the blades so the end of one blade is right next to the other.... make sure they are close to being in the same plane.... like within 1/16" to 3/32". Spin ONLY ONE blade and check again.... Spin other blade & check again... Now switch to the other end of the deck & check again. Make sure the spindle bearings are not loose & wobbly... If Your blades do not pass the tests above FIX whatever is causing them to fail. Could be a bent blade, bend mower housing causing a spindle to be cocked. When You re-attach the mowers You should have a threaded hanger on one side... and on the front, Eyebolts. Take a small block, 2X4 works and make sure Your mower hangs level off the tractor by sliding the block around on a smooth FLAT concrete floor. When You mow You shouldn't be on wet grass, or driving faster than about 1/3 to 1/2 as fast as Your Hydros let you. You Can't mow wide open on the hydro! Actually for just mowing grass a 129 (I have one too) should run a 50" deck slowly very well. Also check "ihcubcadet.com" the setup above is one of their Frequently Asked Questions.

Have a three blade 60" deck on a 2182 Cub Cadet hydro. The 60" deck has wheels at each corner and anti-scalp rollers front and back. The blades need to be sharpened after about five hours of use for a good looking job, and the tractor speed can't be excessive (no faster than you would walk). That may sound like frequent sharpening, but it is usually just a touch-up and doesn't take long.

If the blades are dull or the speed is too fast it will start to streak, but I think this is true of any model mowing deck. I mow fairly often so as not to "make hay", and keep the grass about 4". Rotating between three of four different mowing patterns also helps. One other thing to look at is the belt tensions. Make sure they are tight enough so that there isn't a lot of slippage that would reduce the blade RPM's. For a really first-rate job a very sharp reel-type mower is the only way to go.

I have a 42" mower on a 123, (same horsepower as your 129). It runs it OK, but the blades have to be kept sharp or it struggles. 50 inches sounds like a lot for a 129, unless your grass is a lot thinner than mine. Not familier with the 682.

I had a 123 with a 48" deck. Had to tune up the deck to make it mow level, and also put a caster wheel one each side in front to cary front of the deck. It would mow my yard as fast as the tractor would go if the greas didn't get too high. In heavier grass had to aslow down quite a bit or it would leave streaks whrer blades met.

I worked with a man that was sharpening his mower blades and I happened to pick up one of the blades
and said these blades don't need any sharpening.
He said his grass was always white looking after he mowed. I looked at the blades again and the green from the grass was on the wrong edge. I said you've been putting these blades on in the wrong direction. The sharp edge needs to rotate
in the direction of the spindles. He never had
any problems after that.

If the grass is tall you may need to select a lower gear. Hal

My first thought is are your blades sharp, belts tight? Second I never ran a 50" deck but the 129 may be a bit underpowered? How short are you mowing the grass? The knob came loose on my cub and left the deck mow on the runners. That left streaks between the blades, I set it to mow 2.5" and it went away. My 1650, 682, 1512 cub cadet"s all with 44" decks on them mow very well. Look like a modern one mowed the lawn.

One last thing years ago my grandfather bought a brand new garden tractor. He told the dealer that it did not mow right. Dealer told him to get on and show him how it mowed. When done the dealer told him "may I suggest you get someone who has time to mow your grass do the job, because you don"t"

Sorry about the double post. Computer taking fits!

BUT I forgot to add, front guage wheels on the decks greatly improve the look of the finished yard. No gauging or scalping.
