What is the boards thoughts on a 1206 International that has about 4000 hours on it. It has been sitting for a while and needs some work. But looking for a cheap tractor to mow with a batwing mower. He only wants 3500 for it.

Are these pretty realiable tractors?

Well for that money it's not bad but if it has big problems then your 3500 can turn into 10000 in a heart beat . One of my old customers did not like the price i had on a 1066 that you could go to the field for 8750 and found one for 4500 then he came to me to have a new T/A put in then we found that all the gears were tore up and the engine was on it's last legs and the ft needed completly rebuilt and rewired new brakes new tires a paint job and new seat by the time it was ready for the field he was just a couple hundred shot of 19000 in it , sure glade that he did not by mine i made more fixen his. So if ya don't want that one I'll take it i need something to do for a hobby and it would go good with the 706 and 806.

$3500 for one of the best tractors ever made is a deal.
On the other hand, if "some work" turns into an out of frame overhaul, new hydraulic pump, burnt up turbo, missing tooth on reverse idler, no low speed on the TA, tires don't hold air and needs paint.... well, not such a good deal after all.
That is to say, it's hard to say.
Me, I've had enough surprises with the two tractors I've got, and I heard them run before I wrote the checks.
Good luck, Wm

It needs tires but I figure I can mow this year and part of next year without having to replace them. I have other tractors. I just need an inexpensive tractor to run my batwing mower. It has been sitting a while. But the guy said he would get it running before I bought it. Just for mowing the TA isn't that important is it. It does need painting but again all I am going to do is mow with it.

Did you say 4000 hours? If he took the least bit care of the engine, and you continue it, it should only last another 10000. I agree, you should stay away from it and let me take it off your hands. :) Let us know if you get it bought.

I was wondering that too, 4000 hours is only about 100 hours per year, unless they parked it back in 1970 the tractor has never beeen used for anything or the hours are being misrepresented - especially at that price. I would buy this thing on the assumption it has closer to 20,000 hours (still only averages out to 500 hours per year).
