I do not know how to add hydraulic fluid to my '48 Farmall Model H with front loader. If anyone knows, please fill me in via e-mail. I am logging off to catch some sleep.

On the right side of the tractor below the front of the fuel tank, and on top of the main casting of the tractor (called a torque tube) there is a tall knob/breather. It is shaped like a bakers hat, but is not flopped over. It is screwed onto the fill hole nipple. If there is a bunch of plumbing there it is still the correct place to fill. There should be a dip stick on a washer under it. If not the depth to fluid is (I believe) about 9" below the top of the threads on the nipple closest to the tractor casting. If there is a resevoir on the frame of the loader, or mounted seperately on the tractor, I would fill there. One caution, if there are one way cylinders, the oil volume should be checked with the loader down, or there will be oil everywhere when it is let down.

The owner's manual on a Model 30 (Common H and M loader with one-way cyclinders) suggests filling with the loader 3-4 feet off the grond. Although this is a one-way cyclinder, reserve oil is stored "Above" the plunger in the cyclinder.
