Does anyone make or has anyone made a filter for the hydraulic oil on a M? I am concerned that the oil in the used equipment I buy may be contaminated.

Northern Tool has a nice spin on filter setup. Works well and dosen't cost a lot.

With one way hydraulics, you get very little of the oil from a cylinder back into the pump. If the cylinder is not up when you buy the equipment, you probably get next to none into your system, just a little mixing.

I let a little oil leak out of my system all the time and add fresh oil, it's a little like a bypass oil filter :-)

Caseyc - Good point. Hyd oil is a lot cheaper than a new pump!!!

Illinois Boy ,
on an older one lika an M there isn't much hydraulic fluid in the system so a drain and refill isn't bad. on the newer units like 06/56/66 series there's 20+ gallons so a yearly drain and refill is not economical.

I see what you mean. I have a 350 so have never had to buy huge quantities of hyd oil. However, I think a new pump for my 350 (new - not rebuilt) is around $300.00 - maybe more. I can buy a lot of hyd oil for that much money. An older farmer once told me to change hyd oil and trans oil (including PTO) at least once every two years. Alternate the years and keep the cost down. He also changed his motor oil and filter about 3 times a year and greased the thing to death. I don't recall him having much trouble at all, but he was one who loved to tinker with stuff - kinda like me!!

I just went to TSC and got a remote mount and oil filter for about 22.00. You have your choice of 10 or 25 micron filter. Just plumb it in with 3/4 pipe and away you go! Mine works great...Randy

i'm sure something could be plumbed inline. shouldn't be hard to do. just another good reason to drain and refill every couple of years, if not every year.
