At my dad's old family farm in NC there's a 1940 A (FAA 29325). It's got my name on it (someday) for restoration, but in the meantime, my cousin uses it every year for his garden.

Is there any place that I might be able to find a list of the dealers that existed in 1940 in the central Piedmont area of NC? I'm curious where Uncle Bud might have purchased it from.

Tks!

Butch

The dealer your looking for was probably Baldwin & Garrett Company. They have been out of business for about 20 years They were on south elm st in downtown Greensboro. As far as I know the owners are both dead. I know one of the salesmen and one mechanic are still living. I pick the mechanic's memory every time I see him. This man has forgotten more about farmall's than most people know!!

Hmm... interesting in reply to steve in nc, 06-07-2005 18:42:34
Thanks Steve. There's a current dealer up in Wilson (White's). My tractor is located in Rowan County, but I have no idea how far afield they'd have gone (or been willing to go) to buy a tractor in 1940. Is G'boro closer to Salisbury than Wilson is?

Tks!

B

Contact the local county government in that town in NC to see if they have any info or the local
newspaper in that area. They may even run an ad for you requesting any info from the local residents. Hal
PS: You can locate the newspaper in the area from the Internet if you know the town where your relative lived.

Unfortunately I don't live in the area... in reply to w gatewood, 06-06-2005 19:16:23
I live in SW Virginia, a 3 hour drive from where the tractor lives... I'm not even sure there's still an IH dealer down there, or if there is, whether it's the same one that would have been there in 1940.

Tks!

There are dealers in Reidsville and Siler City. These are the ones closest to me.
