I'm having to remove the countershaft from my H, The I&T manual says remove front bearing retainer nut, but it fails to tell me exactly how to do it, so does anybody have any advice?

There's an access hole that allows you to get to the transmission-engine shaft coupling and the transmission-hydraulic pump coupling. If you remove the transmission-hydraulic coupling, there will be a slotted "nut" that is connected to the front of the countershaft - this is what needs to be removed. I may not have the best way of doing it, but I put the tractor in low gear, put a crowbar in the slot, and give a twist. I'm sure there's a tool for this, but I try to live life to the fullest and make do with what I have (tongue in cheek).

Hi, wayne7 gave a good route to going about it. We did same thing, used a long flat end pry bar in the slot and spun right off. If you end up needing and gears or shafts, let me know, I bought 2 complete rear ends and have more than enoughs good gears and shafts to one complete good trans and final. Shane

The constant mesh gear needs replacing and so does third gear on the countershaft. A machine shop here said they could fix the gears, but if you have some for sale let me know.
