Gradually working on grandads C that stopped running about 6 years ago. It is not stuck or anything, I can turn the engine with my hand on the upper pulley. Took off the valve cover and discovered a bent pushrod that had jumped out of the rocker. Does anyone make new ones? I want to try and go through this myself but I am not a seasoned mechanic or anything. I have been told that these engines are pretty easy to work on. It has the C-123 engine.

As mentioned below, first you need to find out why it is bent. New pushrods are available from many sources, including Case-IH, it's not worth straightening the old one to save a few bucks. You might also want to look at your lifters, for that matter the whole valve train. Check the valve clearance first.

Allen and I usually agree, but I have to add a “disclaimer” to his straightening out the push rod comment. Disclaimer: “IF you have the ability (or know someone that has) to determine if it is PERFECTLY straight, then yes they can be straightened.” (Sorry Allen) If they are not true, then there will always be force trying to bend it again and it will bend easier than a perfectly straight one.

He is right, you need to find the reason that it bent and correct it. I would also do a compression check on it to make sure that the cylinders are in decent shape (you might want to put a couple of teaspoons of oil in first) and that you don’t have a hole in a piston. (If a valve hit a piston it would bend the rod but also might damage the piston.)

These engines aren’t hard to work one except for removing the front crankshaft pulley which really takes a bearing splitter or other home made device to spread the pulling force on the pulley. If you aren’t familiar with engines a shop manual will give you invaluable information, most here I believe would suggest a Blue Ribbon (IH) Manual. IT makes one also that will help a lot.

Most important is ask questions if in doubt. This forum is very good about giving out information and I have yet to see a “stupid” question posted here.

I was kind of thinking the same on how I could get it perfectly "true". I have attempted other things of the like and it is hard to get all of the wobble out it and without weakening the metal. And I have sprayed about half a can of WD in each plug hole several times.
I have an IT manual, the owners manual and a parts manual on the way, so I should not be without enough reading material. Just help deciphering it all. Being the sort of person that always thinks I could have done something better over and over again, I probably have the problem of wasting time messing with stuff that really needs nothing but a good cleaning.
Thanks for your advice, this is a great place. Have been roaming around it for several months now and this is the first post I have made.

Allen, The bent push rod can be straightened and used as long as there is no damage to the ends and it's not bent to a point that it is just junk.
You may find a rod from someone here or you can check a tractor salvage yard or maybe you can find one on Ebay if yours isn't repairable.
You need to soak the valve stems with a solvent like WD 40 to loosen any rust etc that would make the valves stick.
You need to look for the reason the rod bent IE; stuck valve or rocker too loose etc.
Yes, the engines are pretty easy to work on and there are many-many guys on this forum to help you along.

When you say you can turn the engine over on the upper pulley, I assume the bottom pulley is turning too ?
The upper pulley is just for the cooling fan and the lower one is the important one to be able to turn.

Thanks for the information.
I drained the oil and filled it way up with new and spray down the valve train about once a week with WD.
Both pulley's do turn. I should have said that my hand grasps both the pulley and belt which then turns everything.
