I HAVE A 52 M THAT I AM GOING TO TAKE TO RED POWER ROUNDUP NEXT MONTH. IT HAS NEW PLUGS,WIRES,POINTS,CONDENSOR,ROTOR,CAP,COIL AND A CARB REBUILD. IT RUNS FINE UNDER LOAD BUT MISSES AT IDLE OR LOW SPEED. COMPRESSION IS 92,93,94,92.A FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAS FARMALLS SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE MECHANICALLY WITH COMP. READING LIKE THAT. I THINK IT NEEDS A VALVE AND RING JOB. THE MORE YOU RUN IT THE PLUGS BECOME FOULED. THE TRACTOR WAS IN STORAGE FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

I would agree that you need to look that intake system over closely. Look for cracks on the intake portion of the manifold or the gaskets. Sounds like she might be getting an extry gulp of air at idle. Also sounds like she is running rich, causing plugs to foul. Make sure the carb is properly adjusted and choke is opening completely.
Once you've got her all fixed up take her out and work her well....and see what you find from there. Good luck, don't give up...that M is a very fine machine, and you will grow to love it over the years. The hard part of ownership is behind you now.

She is 50 years old and not pumping oil, runs fine since you cleaned the carb. Does a good job under load and has a LITTLE miss while at idle.
Leave her alone we are going to RED Power don"t be messing with it.
Thats right everyone I"m the friend who said ain"t nothin wrong with it mech.
See ya Tuesday Buddy

I wouldn't put that pass you.
But Remember if you put a cab on the old M don't let your dad use it >>> the hay bind will never make it.

Could be a cracked manifold or a crack in the carb!

If a tractor has been sitting a long time it needs to be pulled hard to loosen those rings back up. If I don't have something to pull I put a feed bag or plastic over the radiator and get it hot as a pistol, take the cover off while still running to let it cool down with the waterpump and radiator and repeat that process for several hours. The expansion and contraction seems to loosen those rings up if they are stuck with gunk. I usually add just a little ATF to the oil too. If this doesn't help than you are right a ring and valve job may be in order.

I think the same as you.

If it is pushin' oil, something is sure wrong and also, wobbly guides will make 'er miss at idle.
