I been thinking of getting a cub with a belly mower for mowing my yard. "about 1 acre in lawn."
but I dont know much about farmalls. I have a 2n
That I have been restoring over the last few years
but its a working tractor that I use almost daily
(brushhog, grade 800' of road, pull trees and post
Take it around the block with my wife as she's jogging ;) all the heavier stuff that I need done on my three acers. I love my little ford and would not get rid of it. but I really like the looks of those little cubs about a 52 or older.
My question is do they make good lawn mowers?
(Not that my $1600.00 craftsman mower is all that great)
hows the turning radious? what is a good finsh mower?(belly) Are the parts as readily avalible as they are for the fords? I can get almost any part for that ford new or used. and last: the million dollor question..... can I get as much help from this board as I do from the N-board?
Those guys are very knowlagable and are always ready and willing to help.
Thanks, Dan

IH made close to a quarter million Cubs over nearly 3 decades. There are a lot of parts available.

Folks on the site at the link below can help you too.

Hi Dan, You had better leave that 2N at home and
join your wife in that jog. Then you can think
about your Cub. Hal

I've used a 1948 cub hard for the last eight years as a mower for about three acres. Also use it for plowing and disking the garden and mowing trails in the woods. It's as good or better than it was when I got it... that should say something about them, wouldn't have used a riding mower that long and still have a good machine. --and its still worth what I paid for it... Keep the blades sharp and don't plan on mowing a full swath in bahia. Matt.

Dan,

I have a whole fleet of Cubs and think you should have at least one too. Having said that, I've been using 9Ns for mowing for years with 72" finish mowers. It's a long story, but I'm not able to do the mowing any more so one of the mowers is for sale, a New Holland 3 pt. It's like new since it has been my back-up. If you're near northern Ohio it would be a reasonable solution for you, at about 1/2 new price.

I use my '57 as a mower and like it a lot, but we have a lot of uneven ground that would be heck on a riding lawn mower. The turn radius will likely not be as tight as your riding mower and if you have a lot of trees, shrubs and other obstacles to mow around, the Cub may be more difficult to manuver than your rider.

That being said, I can do a lot more with the the Cub than the typical riding mower. It has consideable torque and will move loads that you wouldn't believe possible. I have a grader blade and disk for mine and it does a great job of leveling. I hear (but don't know first hand since I live in Florida) that it makes a great snow plow. Very quiet engines too.

My guess is that if you buy a Cub, you'll come to like it as well as your Ford.
