IH made a faster 4th for the M sometimes refered to as 7 mile per hour 4th gear.If it came from factory the serial # plate should have a extra suffix following serial #.

The original ads for the new SM's stated that they were all geared faster. As memory serves me they stated that the gearing was around 28% faster than an M. There were all different kinds of gear appplications for M's, so after 50 plus years it is really hard to tell what was original and what may have been special order.

1st--2 5/8, 2nd--3 3/4, 3rd--5, 4th--6 3/4, 5th--16 3/4, R--3 5/8. These are standard speeds and assume engine is set at specified RPM. High speed gears were available for M don't know about SM.
