I have a friend that is looking at buy an 886 or a white 2-85... He found an 886 with 7000 hours on it. The engine was rebuilt (D-360) But he was wondering about the transsmision. Were they pretty reliable with a lot of hours on them? Also is the tranny in the 886 the same as the 986?

Thanks

We put over 20,000+ hours on our 886 - never had a transmission problem, replaced the clutch when the engine was overhauled. Engine was overhauled twice - at 10,000 hours it looked very good when it came apart, at 19,000 it was in pretty bad shape.

I agree with caseyc on the 886. 7000 hours is just getting broken in with this tractor. If you do need parts, both used and new are avaible at reasonable prices. Thats something you can't say for the White, very few in salvge yards and very pricey new parts if Agco has them. My 2 cents.
