Guys,
It has been a tough weekend. First, the 8N goes down for the count, then the hydraulics flat quit on the 350. Basically, when the 350 was parted, the hydraulics worked to lower the bucket to the ground. (It is the old trip style bucket working off of one of the three valves not a PTO driven) Upon trying to use the 350 over the weekend, we could not get the bucket to come up, or the 2pt to raise or lower. I am not real familiar with the hydraulics on the 350, so I thought I would come to the experts on were to start looking. I did drain the fluid yesterday and clean the filter. The fluid level is full, and was full when drained. It is obviously not caused from that. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking? Thanks for your help.

When you move a lever, does it do anything at all, like sputter, groan, or load down the engine? One possibility is the breather is blocked. It sticks out the top of the reservour. You have to take the right hood off to get to it. Whenever I'm doing a hyd. oil change, I also take the breather off and slosh it around in solvent because it always has hay seed in the mesh.

I tried to get the tractor running yesterday, but had an issue with the starter. I did not get it running to check it out myself. I was told by my uncle that it does absolutely nothing. He heard no noises or anything. I am concerned that the pump went out all together. Are there any tell-tail signs? It appears that the power steering is working, but I am not sure if that is a seperate pump. I am just starting to get my hands dirty on this one. Most of my experience to date is with the old Fords. Just basic oil changes and such on the Farmall. Did put a Swartz wide front on it, but that is not rocket science. Thank you for your suggestion. I will check the breather cap since I am sure it has not been checked in the 13 years we have had the tractor. Ken(IL)

The one pump handles the Power Steering too. If the PS works, then it may not be a pump problem. Maybe the splitter has a problem? (diverts a fraction of the hyd. oil flow to the PS all the time--maybe its letting it all run through the PS so you loose power on the auxiliaries) By the way, is your 350 a gas or diesel? (makes no difference in the operation of the hydraulics, other than different pumps--the diesel version will be harder to find)

The tractor is the gas version. I appologize for the delay in response. I had a ton of meetings yesterday. I am hoping to get out one day over the weekend and take a better look at the tractor. I need to pull the starter and clean the contacts. It is what currently is causing my starter problems. This is a problem I have found with keeping the tractor outside. you mentioned a splitter. Is this something that I can check in any way? Thank you for the help you have provided. Ken(IL)
