Got a IH sickel mower for my 400 the other day, they had it mounted to a H. It came with a single line cylinder and a breather port to the other end.
Can the cylinder work with this tractor or do I have to use a duel line cylinder? and how should I set it Duel action or single action? Brothers got a John Deere A With a 8W mower and we are getting ready to head to the hay field in the next day or two.
The competion is on!

The control valves under the dash of the 400 have a switch you might call it to change from dual t single action. You may have to take the side cover off to get to them, I can't remember. Switch the one you are gingto use to single action and you will be all set. Just have to figure out which outlet to plug the hose into.

Ok I did that I hooked it up with one hose, set it to single action, It lifted but won't go down.I undid the line and the cylinder released when I bleed the
line at the coupling.

The only thing I can think of is, do you have the cylinder connected to the port for the valve you changed. If you have three(or two for that mater) hydr. control levers, the outside lever will run the inner most valve, cenete one the center valve , etc. You should be able to tell if you move the lever and watch the control valves. If that is right I don;t know what would keep it from lowering.

Yes thats the one I changed, I guess it takes a two hose cylinder to operate this thing ? and need be I'll change back to Duel action.
