I have a H that jumps out of 5th. I just had the cover off, replaced all the springs in the forks and all the bearings are good Gears look excellent. anything I missed? If I hold the shifter in 5th its stays in.

My H jumped out of both 4th and 5th gear, after flushing the transmission twice with kerosene (and getting a ton of gunk out) and adding fresh 80w90 oil, the problem was fixed! I have no idea why or if just a coincidence but it worked.

As Cowman says, your 5th gear likely has the teeth almost worn off. The teeth on the 4/5th sliding gear for 5th gear are on the inside of the gear. You can't easily see the teeth.

The gear that you can"t see because it meshes inside the top front gear. the teeth get worn off.
