I just picked a 300 with a "j" code, which my book tells me it is a rockford clutch. What does that mean? Thanks for the help!!

Before the days of Rockford clutch, IH tractors had a poor reputation on length of clutch service between rebuilds. This was especially true of tractors with loaders. The specs may have been close, but the actual clutches were not. I have used both types in the same tractor. These were Farmalls that came new with IH clutch then at rebuild time were changed to Rockford. No comparrison in the two clutches, as it applies to length of service.

It means its a Rockford style/manufactured clutch as opposed to IH.Supposed to be heavier duty, but the spring specs are ever so close.I see most clutch rebuilders only list the Rockford model and not the IH.
