I have a leak where the axle is bolted to the trans. housing on an H. The oil is 140 wt.. I tried tightening the bolts, approx half a turn to no avail. ? is there a way to fix this without splitting the axle from the housing? This is a tractor that I am about to paint. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy

You can probably do it the way Ronald suggests, but I did it a different way. It will take a little longer and require some nerves and a lot of cribbing, plus a cherry picker (engine hoist) won't hurt either. Click the link below to see how I did it. Also, if you do the repair this way, you will be able to check out the inner bearings - I had one that was bad and it was a good time to replace it. Hope this helps. Larry

I had this problem on my H several years ago, I jacked it up to take some of the weight off then loosened the bolts. I used some of the weight to gap the housings enought to silicone the underneath side of the housing. Mine only leaked there. This isn't as good as taking housing off and cleaning it up but it worked for me. Just be careful not to put to much weigh on it with the bolts loose because the bull gear won't let it move to much. It could possible break something.
