Need NAPA (or other mfgr.) part number for oil filter for 1944 Farmall A, S/N 109203. Don't have access to the tractor until Saturday (400 miles away) to check the existing filter, and would like to get the filter before then so I'm prepared to do the oil change first thing Saturday morning. My local NAPA store gave me 1125 and 1172 numbers as possibilities, with C133 (C113?) engine designation as the deciding factor. How do I know if I have the C133 engine?

I checked the archives and couldn't find an answer.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Since the filters don't really cost that much, why not just buy both ?

The A did come stock with c113 engine. But that engine came with 2 filter depending on ser #. 1125 for up to 97938, 1172 97938 and up. The only difference is the length. The other engine possibily is the c123 which would have been in the Super A and C and later models. It should also take the 1172. But you never know when somebody might have changed filter housings.

The A came with 2 different oil filters, even thought the engines were all basicly the same (C-113). A tall filter was used until mid-'44 and a shorter one later. Yours should have the shorter one, whatever number it is. The catch is that they can be changed from one size to the other by just changing the canister and bolt. You really need to look at the tractor to be sure which it is.

The A has the 113 engine as original equipment.

Thanks...that makes it the 1172 filter. NAPA will have one in the morning for me.
