They are a good tractor , but like anything else it all dependes on how it was treated when new . The are in the 70 Hp. class and can weight from 8200lbs to over 12000 depending on fluid wheel weights and ft. weights . If tuned properly they are not hard on fuel as some clam i ran a 67 706 with the 291 for 11 years and never thought that it was that hard on fuel and i pulled 4x16 710 I H plow and a 13and half foot disk . If yours has a new stile selonid on the carb there is no adjustment on the fuel and don't mess with it leaning it out can and will burn pistons and valves run the 93 octain fuel only and only Case I H low ash oil . If it is a 263 cu. in. set the total adv. timeing at 22degrees if it is a 291 then 18 degrees at full throttel . give it a good tune up and set the valves and go over them twice and you should be good to go on that end then the next thing is do the compleat clutch trans brake and dump valve adjustment then the T/A linkage if it is hard to get out of gear then go back over the dump valve . If ya have problems get ahold of me i can walk ya thru the whole tractor in my sleep.

i have a '64 706 with the 263 engine. pulling a 4-16 plow or 15' disc it will use 5-6 gallons of gas an hour. cutting hay with a sickle mower, raking or baling it will use 2-3 gallons an hour. playing with the carb can help greatly. the proper adjustment is halfway. turn the screw in all the way then back it out counting the turns till it wants to die. turn it back in halfway. i run mine 1 to 1 1/2 turns in from there when i don't need all the power and it's really easy on gas. i have gotton away with less than 2 gallons an hour set like that. like the others have said they are great tractors if you take care of them.

The engine's size should be stamped on the left side of the block near the oil filter. RAS is right that a 64 is supposed to have a 263 in it. If you work them hard they burn alot of gas. Also make sure you use 93 or higher octane gas or you will be melting pistons and burning valves if you work it hard. A gasser is ok for light work but heavy tillage should be left for a diesel tractor IMO. Also it would be a good idea to buy a owners manual and service manual, they come in handy at times.

263 ci; 72-73 hp; Not that bad on gas-unless you're working the snot out of it. Don't ever use ether on it or you'll blow manifold gasgets. Nice smooth running engine.
