I got a new governor and magneto (IH) for my Farmall BN. The new unit has no timing mark on it. How can I tell where the gears should go? Where should the slots that the mag slips into be facing when engine is at DC #1 cylinder. I'm lost on this. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The idler gear is the cam gear and the two dots line up with the two dots on mag drive. The single dot lines up with the gear on the crankshaft with single dot. Then when these alr lined up the mag rotor should be lined up with #1 post on the cap. Mite have to time the rotor gear to get them to get rotor in correct position. Been working on the As and Bs for many years and that is the procedure. Just make sure that #1 is on tdc compression when setting.

Gene- my new mag drive came with no dots stamped on it. I used the old one to figure where the marks should be. My cam gear has two markings on it...a single dot and about two teeth away it has a single dash line. I rolled the motor over with hand crank slow and that was all I found. I don't have the front cover off it, only the mag drive pulled out. My old mag drive did have two dots stamped on it.

To tell you that you may still get it a few teeth off. You need to match it up with the old one and mark it or find someone that has a 113 motor apart or what ever a B has in it . Sorry. MagMan

Magman- I found the old drive and matched up the new one I think pretty well. The gear running off the cam gear has two marks on it. One mark is a single dot (.) and a couple teeth away there is a dash (-) mark. The dot is marked on a tooth and the dash is marked between teeth. Which one do I use? I read before about two dots, which the old drive has, but the idle gear on the tractor only has the one dot and a dash mark. Thank you.

I have never had one of them apart so I can only guess but Usally there is on dot and directly on the otherside there may be somthing else one to match up to crank and the 180 Deg there should be something to match up to govener gear at least thats how it is on an H. Maybe someone else that knows these little motors will chime in. Do you have an IT manual If Not if no one else does I can post the directions from that if you need. Let me know. JON

Jon-I would be OK if my gear had the two dots to match up to the mag drive. All I can see on my idler gear is the single dot and a couple teeth away the dash mark. I couldn't see I two dot marking anyplace on the gear. I don't know if I'm missing it or its just not there. Should the dots be 180 degrees apart? I'll look again tomorrow but I looked hard today and only saw the single dot and dash marks close. Thanks
