Phil had to go to the tractor parts yard the other day to get a injector line for his 1206. While he was walking around to find one he saw a 4 wheel drive IH that had 4368 emblems on it. When he went to pay for the line he ask about it. They told him it was real & there were very few made Any of you ever saw any?

IH did not build a 4368.

The emblem your friend saw was most likely a faded out 4568 decal.

Ken Updike's data book lists a 4366, 4386, 4568, 4586, and 4786, having HP's of 164, 175, 230, 235, and 258 HP, all built by Steiger. With all the similar numbers, it's no wonder that they are hard to keep track of. Since the tractors were rebadged Steiger's??, perhaps a 4368 could have slipped through, and was probably a rebadged Steiger also -- but I know nothing about any of them. Ken's otherwise good book has a few omissions and mistakes in it.

Larry: I have a 1975 buyers guide, that shows only two articulated tractors, being the 4366 and 4568. There is no mention of a 4368 for 1975.

Just looked at my Nebraska Test book, if IH built a 4368 they never had it tested at Nebraska. I see the following, 4300, 4366, 4386, 4568 and 4786 but no 4368.

Hugh, I"m correcting myself in a way, as while I have seen 4368 listed in various places, it is not in any publication or data that I would call reliable. I wont say it didnt exist, but I don"t trust the sources. The 4568 is a different story as I operate one on a regular basis. It is a 1975 which I think was the only year of that model. Larry might be right on the 4368 issue. I was thinking of an auction I attended a year ago and there was a 4386, that went cheap, cheap, cheap, (less than $4,000.), I was thinking it to be a 4368, but checked with my buddy who was at the same auction, but he said it was indeed a 4386. On google check, I did find 4368 as referenced to an aftermarket hitch system, but I certainly won"t take that as gospel, nor accept it as documentation.

Paul: I really am in no position to argue this one, as I really don't know. I just listed what I saw in the 1975 IH buyers guide, and what I saw in the Nebraska Test book. Now we do know IH did not have all tractors tested at Nebraska. Super A is one example, never tested at Nebraska. Of course there are the 2+2 articulateds, but that is another kettle of fish as the Newfoundlanders say.

As far as I know there was never a 4368 made there was a 4568 which was a v-8, a 4366, 4386 which were 6 cyl, 4586 and 4786 which were both v-8s.

The 4368 was a 4x4 articulated tractor nade in the mid to late 70"s. They had the same frame as the 4568 of the same era, but with less HP.

Larry, the neighbor had one running for most of this winter, pulling a large dirt scraper doing conservation construction directly across the road from my house. Had the appearance of a 1066, but was an articulated 4X4, actually 8X8. At some point the muffler had been replaced with a straight pipe, and I could hear that V-8 for two miles before he got here. I did get a close-up look once, definately 100% I.H.

Rusty, I"m not sure of the year. I"m thinking mid 70"s, but the 4568 on our farm has a chrome straight pipe, and bellars like no other tractor in the area. It developes approximately 325 hp, and the main task is to pull a 30 ft JD 750 No-till drill. We were one of the first operations in our area, (Mid-Mich) to use 4x4 or as you say 8x8 articulated tractors to plant. They work great, and we set the tire pressure to 10 lb. 12 lb max, which minimizes compaction for No-till. I think the 4368 and the 4568 is essentially the same as their 86 counterparts but with different paint schemes, There are some Steigers of that era configured the same way but with Steiger paint and tin work.

I also checked my Nebraska Test book. If IH built a 4368 they never had it tested at Nebraska. The only IH articulated tractors tested were 4300, 4366, 4386, 4568 and 4786.

I need to clarify, I am not sure it was a 4368, the emblems were gone.
