Good Noise?

Hi Guys,

Overhauled the T/A in my old tractor putting new gears against old. Yep, you guessed it, planetary whine when in reduction.

My neighbors have been keeping me and the old tractor busy this past week and it may be my imagination, but it seems like the gear whine is becoming less noticeable the more I use the reduction.

Could it be that it's gonna "Wear in, before it wears out"? Or has my old hearing taken yet another hit? :>(

W#hen I did my 806 several years ago I had that whine too. First job out of the shop was plowing with it. It took a year or 2 but there isn't any noise at all anymore. When we did Phil's 1206 last spring I told him to expect it but there wasn't any in that one

Allen, Seen it before, may just wear in and loose the sound altogether, anyhow I wouldn"t worry about the noise til it fails to work. It"s a IH TA after all and its supposed to not work right/be noisey, etc. lol

Hi Van,

I used to rebuild automatic transmissions and would run into the "planetary noises" from time to time. The only cure was to completely replace the whole reduction unit; they just would not "come out of it" on their own.

That"s why I was kind of pleasantly surprised to notice this thing was loosing it"s "edge" somewhat. :>)

Allan;

Had clutch and TA repaired on my 706. It had quite a whine to it when I drove it home. Found out it was the nature of the beast to do that. It did quiet down and worked fine.
