I am walking on air. I just finished finding and purchasing a 1950 H. Big deal you say. Well, yes because this one belonged to my Dad for the first 5 years of its life. Sure is going to be a lot of work. May have to park it in a dark corner of the shed when my wife isn't looking!!

Great story! I love to read about these events.
In regard to the '50 H. I have a '46 & '50.
I have always preferred the 50. There must have been something special at Harvester that year.

Congratulations!

I’m amazed. Normally that is like trying to find a needle in the proverbial hay stack. A little more of the history in-between family owners, how you found it and a picture or two would be great!

The pictures will have to wait. This tractor was like the gold at Nome, Alaska. The reason I found this tractor is because I looked!!!! My Dad traded it on a Super M in 1955. This H is sitting in a yard only 4 miles away as the crow flies (ten to drive to). But up until today I'd never been in the yard. The guy I bought it from is about my age (52) and the tractor was his father's after it was my father's. One night we were talking about what a great curler my Dad was and somehow it came up that these neighbours had something of Dad's that might interest me. Happily Ser no. 341292 checks out with Dad's books. It is a wide front H, but to me in allmy excitement I think the front end is heavier built than my other H. Was that an option?

Is one an aftermarket (like a Schwartz) and the other IH? If so that might be why one is built heavier than the other.

It is surprising what one can find in his own back yard. Twenty-five years ago I owned a sports car. A couple years lager (shortly after getting married) my lovely wife talked me into trading it off. Shortly after I got rid of it, I heard that it was destroyed.

Well I started to regret that decision so a few years later I started looking for one to replace it. I had looked off and on for a few years in several states (had acquaintances looking for me too) but never found what I was looking for. I either found poor quality or too pricy.

One day I was at an auction sale visiting about looking for a car and my neighbor (only 9 miles away) said that he had one that he wanted to sell. I went to look at it and we agreed on a price and that little baby was mine!

A trip to the body shop for some TLC and it looks just like the one I traded off many years ago only runs a WHOLE lot better! :>)

I know the feeling, and I have owned mine for about six years now. I just came in from using my 1950 H to grade and level out my driveway. Got done way too quick. May have to see if the neighbor needs his drive graded. Second thought, that won't work, he has his own H.
