Having a little trouble removing the oil pump from the block of my M. I took the two bolts out that hold it in place and tried to pull it out. Nothing. Rotated the cam and pulled at the same time and nothing. Is there an additional bolt someplace I can not see? I don't want to beat on it because it looks like it is cast and hammers and cast don't mix. Any suggestions?

Hi Josh, I think you should pour or spray some lacquer thinner around the block where the oil pump is installed. It's ideal for removing vanish
and may loose that pump too.

Where is that pump installed on the engine? Most are driven off a gear on the rear of the camshaft. Would be nice if you had access to the gear on the pump and could pry against it. Would removing a freeze plug help?
Just some thoughts. Be sure to watch the Preakness today. This a big event in MD. Hal

They can be really tough sometimes, see if you can get a pry bar on it and rotate the pump while you apply pressure with the bar. I used a hammer in an attempt to remove one from an engine that was basically junk anyhow but thought maybe I could salvage the pump. The hammer soon turned the pump into junk also.

Hal as far as I can tell the only place that can be holding it in there is where it slides through a piece right before the cam gear. Spins freely but just won't come out. Definatly don't want to hit it with a hammer and I don't think heat would be a real great idea either. I'll have to get something in there to break that grease up that's holding it in there.

Yep, that's where she's stuck. It will come out, just gonna take a bit of persuasion.

Hi Josh, My manual only shows 2 bolts on that oil
pump flange. You may need to tap the pump with a rubber mallet. Make sure there isn't another
bolt in that flange covered with sludge. That's where they secure the pump to the block. The pump is probably just stuck where it slides up into the block from sludge and varnish. It's raining here this morning, we were needing it. Hal
