I have split my Farmall A to replace the throw-out bearing, and have noticed that the 3 "fingers" that press up against the throw-out bearing seem to be worn. Does anybody know how worn is too worn? And if they need replaced, does anybody have a used clutch, or fingers that would work and wouldnt cost an arm and a leg?

The fingers can be worn both on the surface that contacts the throw-out bearing and where the pivot pins go through. The fingers should have a nice curve to them where they contact the bearing. They will wear flat with use to the point that the curve actually will wear completely away. If the metal on the curve is comparative to the thickness of the rest of the finger, you should be all right. If it is getting thin, I’d replace at least the fingers. If the pivot holes are worn oblong, then you should replace them also, probably with a rebuilt pressure plate assembly.

According to the shop manual the distance from the top of the fingers to the working surface of the pressure plate should be 2 and 23/32 inch (it's easy to measure on a flat table). I think my springs must have been shot because I couldn't adjust mine to get that distance, so I bought a whole new pressure plate and driven disk because I didn't relish splitting this tractor ever again. Do it and be done with it! I got rebuilt ones from Wengers for a decent price.
