I have a 1953 Super C. I am trying to figure out how high it should be reving when the throttle is al th way up. After more than about 1/2 way on the throttle, it dosen"t seem to rev any higher, and the lever is difficult to move more than that.

The engine rpm should be around 1875 at wot. Are you sure the throttle is wide open? Check the throttle linkage at the carburetor. Could be some
binding in your throttle like rust. Squirt some lubricant on the cable to see if that helps.
Borrow an electric tach to see what the rpm's are.

Along these same lines, I am looking for a source for the electronic tac. The kind where you stick on a strip of reflective tape on the pully and use a hand held unit to read the RPS's.

Anybody know of a souce for these tac's?

We used a strobe light. On a vehicle without a tach we would use chalk to mark the damper pulley
and when the strobe light had the chalk appear to be standing still, we would read the rpm's. Hal
Not sure whom it was made by.

Minor difference, but the factory spec is 1815, 1650 loaded.

I kind of have the same problem on my SC but my lever goes close to halfway up before it starts to rev then seems to rev right up. The lever on the carb seems to move. Would something in the govener be causing this problem? I will have to get a tach and see what its running at.
