The local tractor supply store here has a 404(think 64) with 2200 hours, fel with 2 buckets, 7 foot blade. Just bought a farm and need something to grade the driveway, pastures, bushhog and do a little dirt moving. I'm also going to be doing some tilling of a horserace track i've got thats 1/2 mile of sand. I know this is enough tractor but they want $5,500 for it and i'm thinking thats a tad high. Anyone have any idea what I should offer?

If it is REALLY 2200 hrs & good shape with a good loader & the other equip you mentioned, probably ok at $5500. Offer $4500 & see what counter-offer you hear. The Farmall 404 with 3-pt is kind of collectable. The International 404 is not so rare-more produced.

Being that it's offered by a machinery dealer, the price is automatically too high, and they will automatically reject any reasonable offer. Walk away.

not always true..... i have bought a fair amount of equipment from my local dealers and they were better priced then any local auctions at the times when i bought, and i have someone to back me up when somthings not right. i understand where your coming from as the dealer tends to be higher on an average but if you know your salesman well and have a good relationship with them they are your friend more often than not. i have bought items that were alittle higher priced from the dealer but i bought the great service also when i needed help.
